Know It All In 30 Seconds
Come 2020, you can stroll through the areas of Sultanate and Mughal Era monuments without paying any ticket fee. The heritage cell of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning to curate free heritage walks through the various historical sites in South Delhi with an aim to popularize the lesser-known structures in the area.
The initial focus will be on 4 localities- Mehrauli, Hauz Khas, Nizamuddin and Daryaganj. Also, a dedicated website has been created for online registration of these heritage walks.
According to the 2010 notification, Delhi has about 766 heritage sites, out of which many are dilapidated. And about 425 of them are in South Corporation areas. The plan also encompasses the renovation of these buildings.
For the first round of renovation, three zones have been picked up- Gold Gumbad near Nizamuddin, Jamali Kamali Mosque in Mehrauli and the group of monuments in Hauz Khas. Also, one of the oldest libraries in the city in Mehrauli, that was inaugurated by Sardar Vallavbhai Patel, will be refurbished soon.
With the start of the new year, get ready to know your city in an all-new way!
