If you’re a Delhiite then it is likely for you to be well versed with the popularity of Nihari in Delhi.
A favourite amongst avid meat lovers, Nihari takes hours and hours of preparation. It requires the meat to be cooked overnight in a stock of special herbs and spices, in the traditional vessels called ‘daig’ sealed over with dough.
The result of this is a melt- in- mouth stew where the meat becomes so tender that it easily separates out as delicate juicy shreds. It’s taste doubles up when eaten with Khamiri Roti cooked in the traditional clay furnace.
Speaking of Nihari, one name that is on every Delhiites mind is Kallu Nihari! There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of restaurants in Old Delhi that serve Nihari, but none of them can match Kallu’s Nihari!
It is a small restaurant situated in Chatta Lal Mian, which opens at 5 pm. However, if you want a plate of the Nihari, it is best to get there a little early and stand in the queue because of the large crowd that gathers over time!
They have known for serving the BEST nihari in Delhi since the last 27 years! While Kallu Mian, the owner of the shop expired in 2016, his legendary Nihari lives on and is served every day to the people in waiting!
People from all over Delhi crown over this little shop in Daryaganj to get a bite of this melt-in-mouth, spicy Nihari!
So, are you willing to face the crowd of old Delhi streets to taste a little bit of heaven!
